Eight Benefits of Therapy and Counseling

How Clients Find Me

Clients come to me through a simple Google search or from a variety of referral sources, including:

  • A friend or family member
  • A minister or mentor
  • A probation officer or DCF worker
  • A doctor or social worker
  • An employer or school counselor

Whatever the reason or referral source, my office is a judgment-free zone. I recognize that seeking help takes great courage, and I honor that step above all else.

Types of Counseling

I primarily provide individual and couples counseling, though I also offer family sessions when appropriate. Many clients begin with individual counseling and later invite a significant other or family member to join the process.

Additionally, I occasionally run therapy groups based on the needs of my caseload. Some past groups have included:

Young adults newly diagnosed on the autism spectrum
Individuals coping with family members who have personality disorders

Therapeutic Approaches

I integrate a variety of evidence-based counseling methods, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Faith-Based Counseling (when requested)
  • Solution-Focused Therapy

While these techniques are highly effective, the most important factor in counseling is the relationship between client and counselor. A shared vision for healing and growth is essential, and I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, and collaboration.

Length of Treatment

Counseling is not one-size-fits-all. Some clients come for just a few sessions to work through a specific challenge, while others engage in long-term counseling for deeper healing and growth.

Rather than abruptly ending treatment, I work with clients to gradually reduce session frequency—moving from weekly to biweekly to monthly as they gain confidence and stability. The most important factor is that counseling continues to feel beneficial.

Getting Started

Appointments can be requested via email, phone, or through this website.

Once you request an appointment, I will send you a link to complete intake paperwork (which takes approximately 15-20 minutes). This includes:

  • Policy information about my practice
  • Privacy and confidentiality agreements
  • An opportunity to share any background information you feel comfortable providing

Once your intake is complete, my office will contact you to schedule your first session.

I look forward to walking this journey with you.
