People see me for counseling for many different reasons. Some of the most frequent include:
Depression
Addictions
ADHD
Anxiety
Parenting Issues
Grief and Loss
Co-Dependency
Trauma
Chronic Illness
Stress and Burnout
Relationship Challenges
Problems at School
Spiritual Problems
My clients come from a simple Google search or from a variety of referral sources:
A Friend or Family Member
A Minister or Mentor
A Probation Officer or DCF Worker
A Doctor or a Social Worker
An Employer or School Counselor
Whatever the reason or the referral source, my office is a ‘judgment free’ zone. It can take great courage to seek help and that’s what most important.
Types of Counseling:
The two main modalities of counseling I provide are individual and couples counseling. In some cases, I will do family sessions. Often, a person starts the process with individual counseling. Later, they may decide to invite a significant other or family member. From time to time I run groups based on the needs of my current caseload. I have had a group for young adults newly diagnosed on the autism spectrum. I have also run a group for individuals coping with family members with personality disorders.
Methods Utilized:
I utilize aspects from a variety of therapies and techniques. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness Based CBT. I also use Motivational Interviewing, Faith-Based Counseling, and Solutions Focused Therapy. I recognize that there are various studies that show how effective these are. However, nothing works unless there is a positive relationship between client and counselor. A shared vision of what the outcome should be is crucial. That is my priority.
Length of Treatment:
Some clients come for a few sessions to overcome a specific problem. Others stay for quite a while longer. Rather than simply terminating the sessions, we gradually reduce the sessions from weekly to every other week to monthly. The most important factor is that the client feels the counseling is beneficial.
Getting Started:
Appointments can be requested by email, phone, or through this website. Once you request an appointment, I will email you a link. This link leads to intake material, which will take 15 to 20 minutes. These include policy information about my practice. They also cover privacy and confidentiality. You will have an opportunity to share whatever background information you are comfortable sharing. Once the intake is complete, my office will contact you to schedule your first appointment.
